Model 85H and 85P Numbering Head

The Model 85 is similar to the Model 80, but offers a 2-wheel quick-change feature. The expanded quick change feature of the last two wheels enables the operator to quickly change the last two characters in the marking sequence.

Description

Operation
By sliding the wheel shaft to the left and rotating the knobs, the tens wheel is quickly set. By sliding the wheel shaft to the right and rotating the knobs, the unit’s wheel is quickly set. Both quick-change wheels are indexed for direct sight reading, thus simplifying the selection of the correct characters. The other wheels in the machine are changed by using the convenient spanner wrench.

Construction & Parts
The innovative design of the machine guarantees consistently uniform character alignment and depth of impression. Multiple wheels are held in position by retaining pawls and retaining pawl springs. A retaining pawl seats the index plate on each of the one piece wheels. This one-piece construction assures better alignment. The wheels are engraved for accuracy, strength and alignment. Crafted from high-grade alloy tool steel, they are precision heat treated for severe usage and long life. Unlike less rugged designs of some other manufacturers, we optimize our frame designs to be compatible with the number of wheels desired by increasing the frame and leg widths. All 5/32″ – 1/4″ machines are constructed using large diameter wheels, wheel shafts and frames. Hand shank frames are constructed of heat-treated high-alloy steel to resist chipping. The hand shank is vinyl coated to absorb shock during the marking operation when it is struck with a hammer.

Compatibility
The Model 85 can be adapted to virtually any press. Our standard shank is 1″ x 1-1/4″ or 1” x 2.” We offer a standard dovetail shank to fit our hand and power presses or Model 116 Dovetail Adapter. We can make custom round or rectangular shanks. We can omit the shank and provide tapped mounting holes or install a custom designed adapter. We can also leave the top flat so the customer can drill and tap or mount an adapter.
