Proven Reliability: Why a 30-Year-Old Numberall Numbering Head Is Still a Smart Investment mdl-70H-151x300

At Numberall Stamp & Tool Co., durability isn’t a claim—it’s a fact verified daily on factory floors and in the secondary market. We recently spotted a Model 70 Hand Numbering Head listed on eBay, originally manufactured more than 30 years ago in our historic Staten Island facility.

Despite decades of heavy industrial use, the unit shows minimal wear, tight tolerances, and flawless mechanical function. This is the direct result of precision American engineering, heat-treated alloy steel, and a design philosophy that prioritizes longevity over planned obsolescence.

Spotlight: The Model 70 – The Workhorse of Repetitive Serialization

The Model 70 is engineered for high-volume, repetitive marking where sequences remain constant during a production run—making it ideal for product codes, part numbers, and date codes.

Two Configurations to Fit Your Workflow: Numberall Model 70P. Model 70P Press Shank Numbering Head: Equipped with a standard press shank, the Model 70P is perfect for hand or power presses.

  • Model 70H (Hand): Features a knurled handle for manual striking with a hammer.
  • Model 70P (Press): Includes a standard press shank for integration into any manual or power press for higher throughput.

Key Features That Deliver Decades of Service:

  • One-Piece Frame & Shank: Machined from high-strength, heat-treated alloy steel with no joints to loosen or plastic parts to crack.
  • Precision-Engraved Wheels: 42-character dials ensure crisp, uniform impressions every time.
  • Total Alignment: Consistent character spacing and impression depth, stroke after stroke.
  • Purely Mechanical: No electronics, no software, and no consumables—just occasional cleaning and light lubrication.

Found a Vintage Numberall? Use Our Serial Number Lookup

If you have inherited a machine or purchased a used Numberall unit secondhand, we can help you identify its history and ensure it’s ready for another few decades of work.

How to decode your tool’s age: Look at the last three digits of the serial number (typically found on the frame or dial):

  1. The Letter: Indicates the month of manufacture (A=Jan, B=Feb, C=March, etc.).
  2. The Two Digits: Indicate the year of manufacture.

Example: A serial number ending in C94 was manufactured in March of 1994.

The Numberall History & Compatibility Report: Don’t guess on parts. Contact our team with your serial number, and we will provide a no-cost report on your specific unit, including:

  • Original Specs: What character sizes and configurations it was built with.
  • Part Compatibility: We’ll confirm which modern wheels, springs, and shanks fit your vintage model.
  • Service History: If the unit has been back to our Maine facility for a factory tune-up in the past.

Why a 30+ Year-Old Numberall Outperforms New “Budget” Tools

While imported or high-tech marking tools may cost less upfront, their Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) quickly surpasses a Numberall investment. A used Model 70 in good condition is often a smarter buy than a new “disposable” tool because:

  • Low Cost Consumables: No inks, styluses, or lenses to replace.
  • Environment Proof: Immune to the dust, oil, and heat that destroy electronic systems.
  • Lifetime Support: Parts and factory service are available for life—even for units from the 1980s and earlier.
