If you are in the boat building industry, you are likely familiar with the term Hull Identification Number (HIN), also known as the Hull ID. The Hull ID is a mandatory 12-character serial number that is required for all boats manufactured or imported on or after November 1, 1972. Regulations require that this number is marked at a minimum ¼” character size. Ensuring that the Hull ID is legible for the life of the boat is very important—and Numberall offers three products that can get the job done.
Model 94
Numberall’s Model 94 Press is the best equipment for HIN marking at a low volume. It is both easy to use and tough enough to handle any task. The Model 94 was designed for applications in which each part requires a different code, making it an obvious solution for Hull ID marking. Equipped with a mono-character wheel and automatic character spacing, the Model 94’s operation is easy to use and allows you to seamlessly transition from character to character to ensure consistent character spacing. In addition, various nests, strip holders, and slides can be custom manufactured to hold the tag or nameplate for use with the Model 94 Press—making it a very versatile product.
Model 70P
Another option for low-volume marking is Numberall’s Model 70P, which can be adapted to fit virtually any press. Multiple character wheels are held precisely in position by retaining pawls and pawl springs. By using the accompanied spanner wrench, the character sequence can be changed after an impression is made. Like the Model 94, Numberall’s Model 70P offers consistently uniform character alignment and depth of impression, making it ideal for Hull ID marking.
Model 50P
For high volume HIN marking, Numberall’s Model 50P is your best option. The Model 50P offers rapid, accurate, and consecutive marking. Like all of our machines, the Model 50P is built with heavy duty tool steel and wheels are precision heat-treated for ultimate durability. In fact, we are still servicing 50P units that are over 4 decades old.
